Outgoing Tulane coach Jon Sumrall said Monday at his introductory press conference at Florida that he urged current Green Wave commits to still sign with the program.

How many ultimately do during this week’s early signing period or in the traditional February period remains to be seen.

Archbishop Shaw defensive back Jackson Williams, a top-25 prospect in Louisiana vs. All Y’all’s 2026 class rankings, announced later Monday his decommitment.

“After praying, talking with my family and coaches and really considering my future goals, I made the difficult decision to decommit from Tulane and reopen my recruitment,” he said. “This was not an easy choice. Tulane University offered me a great opportunity, and I’m truly grateful.”

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound versatile athlete in the secondary is the No. 22 overall prospect and No. 7 defensive back on the list, which was last updated prior to this season.

Williams was a notable recruiting coup for Tulane to keep in-state when he committed in early June over Florida State, Louisiana (Lafayette), South Alabama, Texas State, Troy, Central Arkansas and Stephen F. Austin.

Washington State extended his most recent offer in mid-October during a rush by the Cougars in New Orleans that ultimately flipped another pair of West Bank standouts in Edna Karr quarterback John Johnson and running back Tre Garrison from Liberty and Nicholls State, respectively, in early November.

West Monroe offensive lineman Tylan George, another notable in-state commitment for the Green Wave, also announced that he would hold off on signing until February.

The 6-foot-3, 315-pound guard was the No. 38 overall prospect and No. 6 offensive lineman on the preseason Louisiana vs. All Y’all prospect rankings for the class.
