A pair of senior stars from Edna Karr’s thus-far dominant 2025 season have changed their college plans.

Running back Tre Garrison and quarterback John Johnson backed off prior commitments to Nicholls State and Liberty, respectively, they announced Wednesday, with Garrison flipping to Washington State.

Johnson announced his recruitment as reopened, not yet specifying his new landing spots. But the Cougars also became his latest college offer Oct. 16.

“After a lot of thought and conversations with my family, I’ve decided to decommit from Liberty University,” Johnson posted via Twitter. “I want to thank Liberty University and the coaching staff for their time and support. This wasn’t an easy decision, but I’m excited for what’s ahead.”

The Cougars are a perfect 9-0 entering this week’s regular-season finale against Archbishop Rummel and are widely considered not only Louisiana’s top team this fall, but are highly ranked on a national scale by multiple outlets.

Johnson was an LSWA Class 5A all-state honorable-mention selection as a junior with nearly 3,400 passing yards, more than 900 rushing yards and 50 total touchdowns as the helm of the program’s first state championship since 2019.

He entered his final high school campaign as a top-50 prospect in Louisiana vs. All Y’all’s class and has orchestrated an offense that has averaged 45.1 points per contest and has scored the most points allowed this season by seven of its nine opponents.

Garrison played some in 2024, but earned his way into a lead role in the backfield with Johnson as a senior.

He earned his first college offer following a breakout performance for him and 2027 prospect Jermond Macklin in the Cougars’ spring scrimmage Destrehan, then added Nicholls State in June and had enjoyed a stock-rising final high school campaign.

Edna Karr currently plans to have at least 14 seniors sign with colleges Dec. 3, including Johnson and known commitments:

– DT Richard Anderson —> LSU
– DE Romeo Brown —> Alabama A&M
– RB Tre Garrison —> Washington State
