LHSAA Statement Wins of Week 3 (2025)

A Shreveport area program topped the “Statement Wins” list for the second straight week.

In fact, teams from northwest Louisiana claimed the top two spots in Week 3.

Every week, Louisiana high school football teams come out on top of games that open eyes around the state, surprise doubters, flex their muscles against good competition, inspire confidence in themselves or their communities or show rivals that their series dynamics may be shifting

Fans around the state who have followed Louisiana vs. All Y’all on social media through the years will be familiar with our weekly “Statement Wins” feature during each football season.

Now, with the site launched, we’ll have the opportunity to devote a little more ink and detail to these spotlighted outcomes.

Note: “Statement Wins” does not mean the most surprising outcomes of the week. The “statement” may vary between each game, but each game included said something of not that caught our eye.

1. NORTH DESOTO 39, WEST MONROE 28

The Griffins made the trip east to perennial Class 5A power West Monroe, got a little revenge and significantly bolstered their résumé as arguably the top team in Class 4A and one of the best in the state. A banged-up North DeSoto fell in lopsided fashion at home last season, 63-14, but got the best of the rematch Friday to secure its first 3-0 start since 2022 — the season in which the program reached its first-ever state championship game and overtake the top spot in the LSWA’s Class 4A polls entering Week 4.

2. CALVARY BAPTIST 33, FRANKLIN PARISH 30

Another north Louisiana matchup in which a Shreveport area team picked up a marquee win against a higher-classification foe and avenged a 2024 loss in the process. Franklin Parish opened eyes around the state last season by beating a loaded Calvary Baptist team, which returned a slew of key pieces from a 2023 state title. This time around, the Patriots made the return trip as the No. 1 team in the LSWA’s Class 4A polls, and a new-look Cavaliers group built a big lead and held off a rally for the upset and the message that they should once again be considered a contender to watch in Class 2A.

3. ST. AUGUSTINE 68, LEGACY SCHOOL OF SPORTS SCIENCE 40

The Purple Knights added to Louisiana’s early-season résumé against out-of-state opponents with enough firepower to handily win its shootout with Legacy School of Sports Sciences (Spring, Texas) and star quarterback Keisean Henderson. The Purple Knights are 3-0 for the first time since 2022 and have showcased one of the state’s most explosive offenses with an average of 60 points per game.

4. CATHOLIC-BR 28, UNIVERSITY LAB 14

Catholic High got back on the right side of the Battle of Baton Rouge for the first time since 2022 and did so in impressive fashion against a good U-High team. The Bears’ defense was dominant until late with a shutout effort until midway through the fourth quarter, and the offense gained steam in the second and third quarters with good blocking, a deep backfield and effective tempo. Catholic has played top-10 opponents in Class 5A, 4A and 3A to open the season and looks the part of one of the state’s top teams.

5. LAFAYETTE CHRISTIAN 45, WESTGATE 21

The Knights have been “Statement Wins” candidates every week thus far this season and make the cut of the top five for the second time in three weeks. After losing the 2024 meeting, Lafayette Christian reasserted its control of its series against Westgate with an emphatic victory Thursday to improve its record against the Tigers to 5-1 in the past seven years and start this season 3-0 against two Class 5A opponents and an always-tough Class 4A Westgate.
