LHSAA Statement Wins of Week 8 (2025)

District 2-5A comebacks have officially become a mainstay of the most eye-catching outcomes of every week.

The latest topped Louisiana vs. All Y’all’s Week 8 “Statement Wins” list, which was otherwise dominated by notable small-schools showdowns that featured surprises, series-shifters, dominance reassertions and shakebacks.

Fans around the state who have followed Louisiana vs. All Y’all on social media through the years will be familiar with our weekly “Statement Wins” feature during each football season. Now, with the site launched, we’ll have the opportunity to devote a little more ink and detail to these spotlighted outcomes.

Note: “Statement Wins” does not mean the most surprising outcomes of the week. The “statement” may vary between each game, but each game included carried some notable weight.

Here’s a look at the five that ultimately topped the list.

1. ALEXANDRIA 45, RUSTON 28

The biggest message may just be to the parity of District 2-5A and ability for any one of four or five teams to be the league’s best from week to week or even half to half. But an Alexandria team that dropped its district opener was down, 21-3, early Friday against one of the two remaining undefeated teams thus far in league play — only to roar back with a 42-7 run the rest of the way. Ruston had dominated the series historically. But Alexandria got the best of a close, back-and-forth battle at home in 2024, then underscored Friday that that game and last season’s district title were no one-off accomplishments and that the Trojans remain a major factor in 2025 (and we anticipate well beyond).

2. LOREAUVILLE 40, CATHOLIC-NEW IBERIA 28

The rest of our top-five is made up entirely of smaller-school matchups, but Loreauville authored one of the state’s bigger surprises in Week 8. The recent history between the nearby rivals hadn’t been one-sided. The Tigers actually won four straight from 2019 to 2022 before Catholic-New Iberia got back on the right side the past two years. But this year, the reigning Division-III Select champion Panthers had enjoyed the better record and higher ranking. Loreauville disrupted those trends, though, both in the series and for the season, and opened eyes around Louisiana to not overlook the Tigers as the playoffs approach.

3. ST. EDMUND 52, CATHOLIC-POINTE COUPEE 50

Catholic-Pointe Coupee had swept the first six of the current run of annual meetings by an average of 16.7 points per contest — even after having to scrap out a 26-22 win in 2024. But St. Edmund wouldn’t be denied in 2025. The Blue Jays pulled off an overtime win to end their drought against the Hornets, stay alive in the District 5-1A race and pull themselves into position for a potential first-round bye in the Division-IV Select playoff bracket.

4. OUACHITA CHRISTIAN 35, MANGHAM 14

Ouachita Christian has owned its current District 2-2A and previous league groupings for years and has been off to as dominant a start to its season as anyone in the state. But the Eagles’ first seven opponents had posted a combined 13-35 record thus far, and Mangham — with defeats of Ferriday and Oak Grove to stretch its win streak to six games — marked their biggest test to date. OCS passed that test with flying colors and a three-score margin to reassert its control in the district race and move itself up the Division-IV Select power ratings.

5. VERMILION CATHOLIC 50, OPELOUSAS CATHOLIC 15

This season has been bumpy for reigning Division-IV Select champion Vermilion Catholic, which dropped five of its first seven games entering last week. But the Screaming Eagles sent an emphatic message in Week 8 with a five-score rout of one of the state’s preseason Class 1A favorites. Vermilion Catholic now appears firmly in the playoff picture and just shy of hosting an opening-round game with the potential to climb into that mix with a strong finish.
