This weekend’s team outcomes weren’t always awe-inspiring.
Twelve previously undefeated LHSAA teams stumbled to their first losses, and the Week 6 list of “Statement Wins” candidates wasn’t as loaded as previous weeks.
Meanwhile, LSU and Tulane had to grind out often-ugly wins to salvage Louisiana’s college schedule on which the six other active teams lost, and the New Orleans Saints continued their respectable, but losing season thus far.
Still, the weekend provided a long list of exciting and memorable performances, including those highlighting the biggest high school school wins, those Tulane and LSU successes and other NFL teams’ solid Sundays.
As always, Louisiana vs. All Y’all identified nine of the best efforts from all three phases and all three levels. Congratulations to the latest Player of the Week winners.
HIGH SCHOOL
Offense — Trez Davis (2026), West Monroe WR: Just two weeks removed from a reported wrist surgery, the Tulane-committed senior wide receiver provided an elite performance that was critical in his Rebels’ 34-31 comeback and upset of previously undefeated Alexandria. Davis, still sporting a cast on his right wrist, caught nine passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns and finished with 284 yards and three scores in all — including the game-tying end-zone trip in the final minutes.
Defense — Keilan Davis (2027), Ruston LB/S: The junior standout was among the core of Bearcats’ defensive leaders with seven-plus tackles, flying around to slow down the potentially explosive Ouachita Parish offense, and blocked and recovered an early punt that put Ruston on the board first in a 21-14 win that handed the Lions their first loss of the season.
Special Teams — Ayden Carter (2027), Lake Charles College Prep ATH/RET: The Blazers’ junior standout was his typically explosive self on both offense and special teams, including a late kickoff return 85 yards for a touchdown that capped a 43-32 statement win against nearby rival Jennings. On offense, Carter rushed 27 times for 253 yards and two scores.
COLLEGE
Offense — Trey’Dez Green, LSU TE: The sophomore tight end was a major difference-maker for the Tigers’ offense in Saturday’s 20-10 win against South Carolina. The former East Feliciana and Zachary star finished with career highs of eight catches and 119 yards, highlighted by a go-ahead touchdown in the second quarter and six other first-down pickups, including a 19-yard third-down conversion.
Defense — Mansoor Delane, LSU DB: The senior cornerback was once again excellent in coverage, locking down his side of the field and disrupting both targets his direction, including a fourth-down deflection that helped shut down South Carolina’s dwindling comeback hopes. Delane has established himself as one of the nation’s top cornerbacks and a consistent candidate for awards recognition week in and week out.
Special Teams — Patrick Durkin, Tulane K: The Green Wave struggled to complete drives Thursday in what could have proved a costly fashion against East Carolina as they went 0-for-their first seven third downs. But the redshirt freshman specialist helped Tulane build a 12-0 halftime lead nonetheless with a four field goals, a school record in any half, and added a pair of second-half extra-points to score a game-high 14 points in the 26-19 victory.
PROFESSIONAL
Offense — Kayshon Boutte, New England Patriots WR: Another LSU pass-catcher who enjoyed a record day this weekend, the former Westgate star caught all five of his targets Sunday for 93 yards and two touchdowns in New England’s 25-19 win. The contest was Boutte’s first in the Caesars Superdome in his three-season career, his first time finding the end zone twice in one game and his second-most efficient NFL performance in terms of catches-per-targets.
Defense — Cor’Dale Flott, New York Giants DB: The national-championship LSU cornerback was among the top performers in one of the weekend’s most eye-catching wins Thursday. Flott intercepted a late red-zone pass and returned it 68 yards to the other end of the field to help the Giants effectively slam the door shut on reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia. The exclamation-mark highlight capped a night on which he allowed just two completions for 9 yards on four targets and finished with three tackles, including one for loss.
Special Teams — Dorian Williams, Buffalo Bills LB: The former Tulane standout graded out among the league’s best performers on both defense and special teams this weekend according to PFF (Pro Football Focus), including the No. 6 overall special teams grade for any player. Williams wrapped up a tackle on the opening kickoff, downed a punt and finished with six tackles in all in the Bills’ loss Monday to Atlana.
