Louisiana Players of the Week: Sept. 23 – Sept. 29, 2025

School records, breakout performances, big rushing and passing numbers, timely interceptions and disruptive pass-rushers and kickers, punters and returners from all over the state.

Louisiana vs. All Y’all’s latest Players of the Week awards cover a wide range of geographic and positional bases.

Congratulations to this week’s nine winners highlighting offensive, defensive and special teams standouts at the high school, college and professional levels.

HIGH SCHOOL

Offense — Ja’Kyrin Woodard (2027), Welsh RB: The Greyhounds’ versatile junior athlete rushed 25 times for a school-record 302 yards and four touchdowns Thursday to help pace a 54-13 runaway victory against South Beauregard. The win marked Welsh’s largest since October 2023.

Defense — Roderick Bingham (2026), Plaquemine DB: The Ragin’ Cajuns commit snatched a pair of interceptions, including one he returned 90 yards for a touchdown, in his Green Devils’ 20-12 road win at nearby rival Brusly. The pick-six alone was a potentially game-swinging highlight in a strong performance overall for the senior safety.

Special Teams — Javon Vital Jr. (2027), Hamilton Christian ATH: A 98-yard punt-return touchdown highlighted another staggering all-around performance by the Warriors’ versatile star. Vital racked up 362 yards and five touchdowns on 15 carries and another 134 yards and a score on 7-for-12 passing.

COLLEGE

Offense — D’Wanye’ “Lunch” Winfield, Louisiana (Lafayette) QB: The former Lutcher star scored his first collegiate touchdown before halftime, took over the quarterback role full-time midway through the third quarter and helped lead the Ragin’ Cajuns to a thrilling 17-point, double-overtime comeback with his 13 carries for 129 yards and three touchdowns — including the game-winner — and 7-for-13 passings for 125 yards and two more scores.

Defense — Alonzo Jackson Jr., Louisiana Tech LB: The former Haynesville star was one of a few good Louisiana Tech options alone in a strong cast of defensive candidates. The redshirt freshman linebacker was second on the team with six tackles and led the Bulldogs with 1.5 tackles for loss, two pass breakups and one quarterback hurry and returned an interception 23 yards for a touchdown that helped seal a 30-11 defeat of UTEP.

Special Teams — Alec Clark, Tulane P: The Green Wave’s standout becomes the third different punter to win Louisiana vs. All Y’all College Special Teams Player of the Week honors, continuing the position’s highlighting of the early weeks of the season. Clark booted eight kicks for a combined 356 yards with a long of 62 yards, an average of 44.5 yards, four downed inside the 20 and just two allowing returns.

PROFESSIONAL

Offense — Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys QB: The former Haughton star completed 31 of his 40 passes (77.5%) for 319 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions and rushed for a 2-yard touchdown to help Dallas tie the Green Bay Packers, 40-40, on Sunday night.

Defense — Danielle Hunter, Houston Texans DE: The former LSU edge rusher was the Texans’ highest-graded defensive standout in a 26-0 shutout of the Tennessee Titan with another disruptive performance. Hunter finished with four tackles, including two sacks, and three quarterback hits.

Special Teams — Cairo Santos, Chicago Bears K: The former Tulane kicker was critical in his Bears’ 25-24 road win in Las Vegas with more than half his team’s points on 4-for-4 field-goal kicking from 52, 51, 46 and 43 yards and a make of his lone extra-point attempt.
