LSU drops to No. 13 in AP, Coaches polls after first loss

LSU enters its first bye outside of the top 10 in the latest AP and Coaches polls after suffering its first loss as one of the headlines of a chaotic Week 5.

The No. 13 Tigers (4-1, 0-1) stumbled, 24-19, at Ole Miss (5-0, 3-0), which catapulted to No. 4 on both new lists released Sunday.

LSU was among four top-10 teams to suffer losses, setting up major shakeup in the latest rankings.

Ohio State (4-0) remains No. 1, followed in both polls by No. 2 Oregon (5-0), No. 3 Miami (4-0) and the Rebels.

A pair of SEC programs split the No. 5 positions: Oklahoma (4-0) in the AP, and Texas A&M (4-0) in the Coaches.

While previous top-five LSU and Georgia each suffered losses, the SEC maintains two the top three, five of the top 10 , eight of the top 15 and 10 of the top 20 teams on both lists.

The Tigers are each poll’s fifth-highest one-loss team behind Penn State (3-1), Texas (3-1), Georgia (3-1) and Alabama (3-1).
