LSU held steady at No. 3 and No. 4 in the new AP and Coaches polls released Sunday entering Week 4 of the NCAA season.
The Tigers (3-0), fresh off a 20-10 win in their SEC opener vs. Florida (1-2), were among an unchanged top three in the media vote and an unchanged top seven on the coaches’ list, both of which were led by No. 1 Ohio State (3-0) and No. 2 Penn State (3-0).
Fellow SEC programs Georgia (3-0) and Texas (2-1) also held strong in each top 10, while Texas A&M (3-0) replaced South Carolina (2-1) — the coaches’ No. 10 last week — as the fourth conference representative in that group at No. 10.
The Aggies were the biggest climber within the top 25 after upsetting Notre Dame, 41-40, in South Bend, Ind.
South Carolina suffered the biggest drop, 14 spots to No. 24 in the Coaches Poll and out of the AP’s top 25, after losing, 31-7, to previously unranked Vanderbilt (3-0), which entered both lists as the AP’s No. 20 and coaches’ No. 23.
Notre Dame wasn’t far off with a 13-spot fall to No. 21 for the coaches and 16-spot drop out of the AP top 25.
Georgia Tech (3-0) entered the top 25 as the AP’s No. 18 and coaches’ No. 19 after upsetting Clemson (1-2), which fell from the top 12 after entering the season opener three weeks ago against LSU as a top-five team.
Tulane remained knocking on the door of the top 25, receiving the coaches’ 30th-most votes and AP’s 32nd-most, after beating Duke, 34-27, on Saturday.
The Green Wave (3-0) now have two Power-Four wins under their belt heading into their trip to Ole Miss (3-0) in Week 4.
