LSU now No. 4 in latest AP, Coaches polls

LSU will head to Oxford, Miss., this week as the No. 4 team in both major polls, the latest editions of which were released midday Sunday.

The Tigers (4-0) are No. 4 in the Coaches Poll for the fourth straight week and slipped a spot there from No. 3 in the new AP Poll after a two-spot leap by Miami (4-0) to No. 2 after cruising by Florida (1-3), 26-7.

No. 1 Ohio State (3-0) continues to lead both lists, including an unchanged Coaches top five for the fourth straight week of the Buckeyes, No. 2 Penn State (3-0), No. 3 Georgia (3-0), LSU and No. 5 Oregon (4-0), followed for a third straight week by No. 6 Miami and No. 7 Texas (3-1).

The AP Poll saw a bit more top-10 shake-up, headlined by the Hurricanes hopping Penn State and LSU.

Oklahoma (4-0) entered the top 10 on both lists — up four spots to No. 7 in the AP and two spots to No. 10 in the Coaches — after a 24-17 win against Auburn (3-1).

The SEC boasts five teams in each top 10  and 10 teams in each top 20 — including Ole Miss at No. 13 and No. 11 in the AP and Coaches, respectively, for the Rebels’ matchup this weekend against the Tigers.

AP No. 11 and Coaches No. 12 Indiana (4-0) was the biggest rising within the top 25 — up eight spots and five spots, respectively, after a 63-10 upset of Illinois (3-1), which tumbled 14 and 15 spots for the biggest falls.
