LSU climbs to Nos. 3, 4 in new AP, Coaches polls

No ranked program entering this season made a bigger Labor Day leap in the polls than LSU.

The Tigers (1-0) climbed six spots in the new AP Poll and five spots in the Coaches to No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, on the new lists released Tuesday.

Previously unranked Florida State (1-0) joined the top 25 after manhandling Alabama (0-1), which plummeted at least 12 spots in both polls.

But no other team in the country appeared to send a stronger message in Week 1 than Brian Kelly’s bunch, which visited top-five Clemson and  came away with a 17-10 victory with a dominant second half on the road.

LSU is the highest-ranked of 10 SEC programs in the AP’s top 25 and a spot behind Georgia as the leaders of 10 SEC representatives on the Coaches’ list.

Here’s a look at the new rankings, as the Tigers prepare for their home opener against Louisiana Tech.
