Tulane held steady in the latest College Football Playoff rankings Tuesday entering the final weekend of the regular season.
The No. 24 Green Wave (8-2, 6-1) remain the only team in a conference outside the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12 and SEC in the top 25 following their 27-13 road win at Temple.
Coach Jon Sumrall and company control their own destiny heading into a regular-season finale against Charlotte (1-9, 0-7) and, with a victory, a potential American Athletic Conference title game Dec. 5.
“We need an outstanding home-field advantage,” Sumrall said. “And I’m not trying to be a smart-aleck when I say this: We’re playing a really important football game, and this team, I think, deserves the city, the state, whoever to show up and support it, because we’ve got an opportunity to do something really special. Our players deserve it — the work they’ve put in. Man, I don’t care who you’re a fan of. I don’t care if it’s Tulane or some other school or you don’t even like college football. Just show up and support a group of people, our young men, who have given a lot of positive experiences and opportunities to our local community to be recognized and play for something important.”
