Former district rivals Isidore Newman and St. Charles Catholic will help kick off Louisiana’s 2025 football season with one of the headline matchups of Thursday’s slate.
The Greenies ended a three-game losing streak to the Comets in 2024, but now have to head to Frank Monica Field at Thomas J. Dupuy Stadium in LaPlace where they have yet to win in the recent history of the series.
The teams have met nine of the past 10 years with St. Charles claiming seven victories and Newman taking the 2020 and 2024 games at home.
The LHSAA Network will broadcast this year’s matchup with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
Longtime Baton Rouge area assistant Aaron Vice, most recently University Lab’s offensive coordinator, has taken over the Newman program following coach Nelson Stewart’s move to Georgia to head the Westminster Schools’ football.
The Greenies’ roster is headlined by their offensive skill players such as Tulane-committed running back Jake Randle, Dartmouth-committed wide receiver George Loop and highly recruited 2027 wide receiver Hendrix Hill, as well as Cornell-committed defensive tackle Henry Jackson.
Coach Wayne Stein’s squad includes offensive lineman Jacques Vicknair, running back Skyler Edwards, linebacker Brooks Monica as a senior trio who were first-team all-district selections in 2024, plus a pair of talented defensive backs in Prystyn Cambre (2026) and James Tyson (2027) among other players to know.
