What’s next for Tulane following Jon Sumrall’s introduction at Florida?

Florida introduced Tulane's Jon Sumrall as its next head coach Monday, Dec. 1, 2025.

A whirlwind day-plus of fast-and-furious college coaching carousel provided plenty of excitement in Baton Rouge, but some likely anxiety in New Orleans.

LSU and Southern introduced Lane Kiffin and Marshall Faulk, respectively — the hottest name on the hiring market and a Hall-of-Fame former NFL running back coming back to his home state.

Tulane meanwhile watched from three states away as Florida introduced its coach Jon Sumrall as its next lead man in Gainesville, Fla.

The news comes ahead of a fourth straight American Athletic Conference title game, including a second under Sumrall, and potentially a College Football Playoff berth.

Sumrall will continue to coach the Green Wave through the remainder of the season, with Friday’s 8 p.m. kickoff in Yulman Stadium next on the schedule.

But, needless to say, there are plenty of future-looking questions to answer and storylines to cover uptown on the immediate heels of the regular season and with huge stakes for the 2025 season still in the balance.

FOX 8 New Orleans sports managing editor and reporter Garland Gillen, who covers both LSU and Tulane, joined Louisiana vs. All Y’all’s Jerit Roser to break down the latest on the Green Wave — reflecting on what Sumrall brought to New Orleans and brings to Florida, providing some outlook for an newly launched coaching search and sharing perspective on the program’s footing in the chaotic state of modern college football.
