Louisiana’s top-ranked quarterback prospect is back on the market two days before the early signing period.
St. Thomas More star Cole Bergeron announced his decommitment Monday from Virginia Tech, which has undergone a coaching chance since his initial pledge Aug. 7.
The Hokies fired Brent Pry on Sept. 14 after a an 0-3 start with double-digit losses to South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Old Dominion.
Former Penn State coach James Franklin was announced Nov. 17 as the new leader of the program moving forward.
Bergeron had maintained his commitment throughout the process and remained open to a potential plan and relationship in Blacksburg, Va.
But other programs, including Minnesota and UTSA, had ramped up their efforts to potential land the 6-foot-4, 210-pound passer if he should have a change of heart.
Virginia Tech landed the commitment of one-time, longtime Penn State commitment Troy Huhn of Mission Hills (Calif.) on Monday.
And Bergeron will now change course as well to another opportunity.

Minnesota has appeared to make the most notable recruiting push down the stretch with Indiana, UCLA and hometown Louisiana (Lafayette) among other programs of note earlier in his recruiting process.
