One of Louisiana’s top senior prospects is back on the recruiting market with just more than a month remaining until the early signing period.
Record-setting Captain Shreve running back Jamarcea Plater announced Saturday that he had backed off his pledge to Wake Forest, which he made early this summer, and would be reevaluating his college options.
“Recruitment is 100% open,” he posted to social media. “I will be moving forward and opening a new chapter in my football career. It’s time to find my new home. ”
Plater initially chose the Demon Deacons over Memphis, Rice, Louisiana Tech, Army, Air Force, Arkansas State and several other offers.
But a slew of other programs headlined at different times by Colorado, Boise State and Ole Miss ramped up their interest and potential efforts to flip his commitment later this summer and into a strong final high school campaign.
The 5-foot-9, 180-pound athlete is the state’s top-ranked running back and No. 18 overall prospect in Louisiana vs. All Y’all’s rankings for the 2026 class, which were last updated prior to the season.
He becomes the state’s highest-ranked uncommitted senior prospect at the moment.
Plater has racked up 1,457 yards and 18 touchdowns on 171 carries thus far in 2025, already a solid follow-up to his all-state junior season in which he broke Captain Shreve’s single-season record with 2,234 yards and 29 touchdowns on the ground.
The versatile athlete, who primarily played defensive back as an underclassman and is also a track and field standout, recently surpassed the program mark for career rushing yards and has continued to add to his total which is now nearing, 3,700 yards.
The Gators will conclude the regular season Thursday against C.E. Byrd before beginning the Division-I Select playoffs.
Captain Shreve enters the week at No. 19 in their bracket group’s power ratings, which would mean a likely first-round home game against an opponent outside the top 10 (currently No. 14 Hammond).
