2027 Brother Martin WR Easton Royal commits to Texas over LSU, others

The first non-quarterback of Louisiana’s talented 2027 recruiting class has announced a commitment and not appears headed out of state for college.

Brother Martin wide receiver Easton Royal shared a pledge Saturday morning to Texas over home-state LSU and a long list of other options that included Ole Miss, Florida, Oklahoma, Georgia, Michigan, Oregon, Nebraska, USC, Florida State, Auburn, Kentucky and Vanderbilt

“I know I’m gonna get developed,” he told Louisiana vs. All Y’all, enumerating the factors in his decision. “The love and stability is there. The way the coaches grow their guys not to just be good players, but good men, too. And Texas has a lot of opportunity for me not just for football, but the business and how the city is constantly growing.

“My family is all over Texas as well, and the academics is also top tier. (Wide receivers) coach (Chris) Jackson has shown me how he develops his guys, and him and coach (Steve Sarkisian) love speedy guys like me.”

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound athlete entered this fall as the No. 4 prospect in Louisiana vs. All Y’all’s rankings for the 2027 class and among the best in the country according to national recruiting services.

Royal emerged even before his freshman season as one of the intriguing young players to watch in New Orleans’ next wave of talent.

And he improved his verified speed in the year between his freshman track season to his sophomore track season this past spring, slashing his 100-meter time more than a full second to a school-record 10.38 seconds.

His list of track accolades and college football offers both exploded exponentially, including both LSU and Texas on the same day in mid-May.

“No. 1, I always stay humble, because it can be taken away in a second,” he told Louisiana vs. All Y’all at the time. “And I’ve just been staying humble and taking it day by day, and I’ve got to get better somehow every day. If it’s not by training, then mentally, just doing doing little things to help me get better to also not just help me on the field, but to be a better man off the field too.”

He finished his junior campaign last week with 53 catches for 1,151 yards and 17 touchdowns, plus 17 carries for another 222 yards and four scores and a combined 350 return yards and three special teams scores.
