Former Madison Prep, Southern S Treylan James becomes LSU’s 20th transfer addition

LSU has landed transfers this week from Hawaii to Pittsburgh and everywhere in between, and none hit closer to home than No. 20.

Southern safety Treylan James, a former Madison Prep standout, announced his commitment late Friday afternoon to the hometown Tigers.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound ballhawk was a multisport athlete for the Chargers in high school and spent the first two years of his college career at Prairie View A&M before transferring back to Baton Rouge this past offseason.

After 16 tackles and a forced fumble in 10 appearances in two years for the Panthers, he totaled 26 tackles in 11 games this fall at Southern, including three stops behind the line.

He now joins LSU’s burgeoning transfer haul as the 20th player and second safety in the class, joining Ty Benefield from Boise State.

The Tigers’ secondary is one of the areas of the roster that returns some of the most notably talent in safeties Tamarcus Cooley and Dashawn Spears (Denham Springs) and cornerbacks D.J. Pickett, P.J. Woodland and Ja’Keem Jackson.

But defensive coordinator Blake Baker and position coaches Jake Olsen and Corey Raymond have continued to bolster the group with veteran help heading into 2026.
