Louisiana fans will have to wait a bit longer for the next commitment announcement from the state’s talented 2027 class.
Hamilton Christian star Javon Vital Jr. will postpone his plans to share his college decision until after the season, he and coach Dexter Washington confirmed Wednesday.
Vital had briefly been set to declare a verbal pledge Thursday afternoon prior to the Warriors’ district matchup against Elton.
His stated finalists included home-state LSU, USC, Houston, UCLA and Sacramento State among his list of major college offers from around the country.
Hamilton Christian is 5-0 for the first time since 2006 and eying not only its second straight District 4-1A championship, but potentially state-title contention in a relatively open Division-IV Select bracket where several perennial powers have stumbled to two or three early losses.
The Warriors enter Week 7 at No. 5 in the power ratings for their division with their four remaining regular-season games against district opponents they beat by an average of 28.3 points per contest.
Vital, a returning all-state selection, has led the charge with a once-again prolific pace of 860 yards and 18 touchdowns rushing, another 745 yards and eight scores passing and punt returns for 98-, 72- and 68-yard touchdowns.
The 5-foot-10, 195-pound three-phase playmaker and four-sport standout is the No. 9 overall prospect and No. 1 athlete in Louisiana vs. All Y’all’s 2027 class rankings.
And while USC and others have made significant pushes in his recruiting process, LSU has been the heavy favorite to ultimately land his commitment and signature.
The Tigers extended their scholarship offer Feb. 1, making him Hamilton Christian’s first student-athlete to be recruited by the program and one of the first 2027 prospect to be prioritized by the program for the cycle.
