The LHSAA shared with member schools Sunday the first look at a potential district plan for the upcoming 2026-28 cycle.
The initial proposal, which is open to appeals and potentially multiple meetings before ratification, includes multiple notable shifts, including Edna Karr and Warren Easton leaving the Catholic League and joining Class 5A’s other Orleans/Jefferson district.
The complete draft of the basic districts for all seven classifications, including Class B and Class C, is attached below.
Principals are able to submit petitions for their schools’ placement by a 1 p.m. Friday deadline and appear at Monday’s classification committee meeting to make their case.
Among the most notable proposed changes:
CLASS 5A
- Edna Karr, Warren Easton move to Bonnabel, John Ehret, Riverdale, West Jeff district
- Chalmette moves from north shore to Catholic League
- North shore core reconsolidates to one district
- Baton Rouge leagues reshuffle with Livingston Parish schools, Catholic, Central, Zachary in 4-5A
- St. Thomas More (up from 4A) replaces Carencro (down to 4A) in 3-5A
- Peabody (up from 4A) replaces Neville (down to 4A) in 2-5A
CLASS 4A
- Neville (down from 5A) rejoins 2-4A
- Carencro (from 5A), LRCA (from 2A) join Cecilia, Opelousas district (as opposed to Teurlings, Westgate)
- Madison Prep (up from 3A) replaces West Feliciana (down to 3A) in BR district
- Salmen (down from 5A) to Franklinton, Lakeshore district
- John F. Kennedy (up from 3A) joins McDonogh 35 district
CLASS 3A
- Loyola Prep (down from 4A) joins District 1-3A (Sterlington)
- Iowa (down from 4A) joins Jennings, St. Louis Catholic, Westlake district
- Loranger (down from 4A), Pope John Paul II (up from 2A) replace Amite, Pine, Springfield (all down to 2A) in Jewel Sumner district
- Lutcher, St. Charles Catholic, Vandebilt Catholic (all down from 4A) join St. James district
CLASS 2A
- Classification changes (Ouachita Christian to 1A; Caldwell Parish, Richwood, Vidalia in from 3A) splits NELA leagues (Oak Grove, Rayville, Richwood in 2-2A; Caldwell, Ferriday, Mangham, Vidalia in 3-2A)
- Kinder moves to Lafayette Christian, Notre Dame, Welsh district
- Covenant Christian (up from 1A) joins Catholic-NI, Franklin, Loreauville district
- Donaldsonville (down from 3A) replaces East Feliciana (down to 1A) in Dunham, Episcopal-BR district
- Amite, Pine, Springfield (all down from 3A) join Independence, St. Helena, St. Thomas Aquinas district
- South Plaquemines (down to 1A) exits Isidore Newman, Country Day district
CLASS 1A
- Ouachita Christian return (down from 2A) to 2-1A headlines north Louisiana shakeup of 1-1A, 2-1A, 3-1A, 4-1A
- Catholic-Pointe Coupee moves from Opelousas-centric 5-1A to Baton Rouge-centric 10-1A with East Feliciana (down from 2A), Kentwood, Southern Lab
