LHSAA Statement Wins of Week 6 (2025)

Week 6 didn’t feature quite the same loaded cast of “Statement Wins” candidates of the first weekend of October.

But some high-profile matchups with big implications from every corner of Louisiana caught the eyes of coaches, fans and media around the state with outcomes that changed the complexions of rivalry series, district races and playoff positioning.

Fans around the state who have followed Louisiana vs. All Y’all on social media through the years will be familiar with our weekly “Statement Wins” feature during each football season. Now, with the site launched, we’ll have the opportunity to devote a little more ink and detail to these spotlighted outcomes.

Note: “Statement Wins” does not mean the most surprising outcomes of the week. The “statement” may vary between each game, but each game included carried some notable weight.

Here’s a look at the five that ultimately topped the list.

1. WEST MONROE 34, ALEXANDRIA 31

The Rebels had owned the historical series almost without exception prior to Alexandria’s undefeated run through the 2024 regular season. And the Trojans led again late Friday with an opportunity for a road win and second straight in the series. Instead, West Monroe pulled off a unlikely and chaotic comeback late headlined by the continued excellent of star receiver Trez Davis to show notable resolve to bounce back in the game, in the series and in this year’s district and state title races.

2. EVANGEL CHRISTIAN 71, CAPTAIN SHREVE 25

After a splitting a pair of close battles in 2024, the Eagles rolled to 49 straight points Friday and an emphatic win to stay undefeated atop the District 1-5A race. Notably, Captain Shreve played a pivotal stretch without star running back Jamarcea Plater. But a 46-point victory against another top contender in 1-5A and now a five-game winning streak were nonetheless eye-catching for a team aiming to compete for not just the district crown, but potentially a run in a loaded Division-I Select.

3. PRAIRIEVILLE 44, EAST ASCENSION 27

The Hurricanes finished their inaugural varsity season in 2024 with the two wins of its 2-8 record coming against small-school competition. But they have now have sent their official District 5-5A arrival announcement with back-to-back league wins the past two week against Walker and nearby parish foe East Ascension. The latest against the Spartans, who are in the thick of the Division-I Non-Select playoff picture, particularly garnered attention around the state. Prairieville is now tied a game back of the lead midway through the league race and ranked in the top 20 of the division power ratings.

4. LAKE CHARLES COLLEGE PREP 43, JENNINGS 32

This year’s edition of the rivalry between two of southwest Louisiana’s most consistently competitive teams in recent years once again featured notable implications not only in the District 3-3A race, but on a statewide level. Jennings had won each of the past three meetings and was ranked slightly higher than Lake Charles College Prep in both the LSWA Class 3A poll and in their respective LHSAA divisional power ratings. The Blazers came out on top for the first time since 2021, though, overtaking the Bulldogs’ poll positioning and strengthening their footing as a potential top-10 playoff seed.

5. ARCHBISHOP SHAW 24, ST. JAMES 20

The Eagles entered this fall with some question marks after major roster turnover and started the season with some ups and downs, but appear to have found their stride with three straight wins. Archbishop Shaw makes the “Statement Wins” cut for the second time in that span with a defeat of a ranked opponent. While St. James is in a lower classification and the Eagles won the 2024 meeting more handily, the Wildcats are a formidable and highly respected enough program and team that most of the coaches and reporters asked leaned in favor of the Archbishop Shaw win’s inclusion this week over other final candidates.
