LSU corner Mansoor Delane bolsters NFL Draft stock with 4.35s 40yd dash

Mansoor Delane declined to participate in interviews Monday following LSU’s annual Pro Day event, but the cornerback’s 40-yard dash and on-field workout spoke volumes that quickly reverberated around the NFL Draft world.

The 6-foot, 182-pound athlete torched a 4.35-second time early in the process, then flew around the field showcasing that speed, changes of direction and sure-handed ball skills throughout drills.

Delane, a unanimous All-American this fall in his lone season in Baton Rouge, has been widely projected as the top-ranked cornerback in the class by most NFL Draft analysts and a potential top-10 pick.

And his latest performance appears to have only bolstered his case for those distinctions.

While Delane didn’t meet with media following the event, his teammates were happy to share their confidence in his potential at the next level — including one of his fellow defensive standouts emphasizing that discussing whether the corner should be a top-10 pick wasn’t even a high-enough bar.

“Shoot, I think he should be a top-five pick,” said linebacker West Weeks, who ran an eye-catching 4.50-second 40 in his own right. “He’s a guy who’s always locked in. You know he’s gonna show up and work every day, and I mean that dude there, he’s a real baller.”

Said wide receiver Barion Brown: “Man, him just being himself, trusting his technique and just going out there and making plays. That’s what it all boils down to: at the end of the day, are you gonna make a play or not. He stepped up numerous times for us and did everything he needed to do. So, man, it’s a no-brainer for me that he’s gonna excel in the league.”
