LSU’s frustrating afternoon at Ole Miss spoiled an otherwise positive Week 5 for Louisiana’s Division-I FBS programs.
Tulane and Louisiana (Lafayette) shook back with big wins to open conference play, and Louisiana Tech and ULM continued their solid starts to the season.
But the Tigers’ familiar offensive shortcomings proved costly in Oxford, Miss., en route to the first loss of the season for coach Brian Kelly and company.
The team continued to struggle to establish a consistent rushing presence, faced particularly long third-down distances all afternoon and suffered a poor conversion rate and low-scoring performance. And the vertical passing game between star quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and a loaded cast of weapons continued to be underwhelming given expectations.
Louisiana vs. All Y’all’s “PODnas,” Jerit Roser and Daniel Hawkes recapped the frustrations of the LSU loss, the positives of the state’s wins — including a memorable performance by D’Wanye’ “Lunch” Winfield and the Ragin’ Cajuns in a wild, double-overtime comeback win in Lafayette — and some quick notes on other big national games.
Plus, as always during football season, the guys take a look at four candidates for High School Play of the Week.
