North DeSoto repeats behind freshman Macie Cameron’s no-hit shutout of Brusly

A state-championship stage proved just another day at the ballpark Sunday for North DeSoto freshman Macie Cameron.

The wunderkind righty stuck out seven batters in a complete-game, no-hit shutout of No. 3 Brusly and drove in the contest’s lone run to help lift the No. 1 Griffins to a Division-II Non-Select repeat, 1-0.

Senior center fielder Carsyn Curtis led off the bottom of the first with a double, stole third base and came home on a two-out double by Cameron.

The early run was all North DeSoto would manage at the plate, but all it would need.

Cameron allowed just four base-runners in all — three early walks, and a hit batter in the sixth — with only one reaching third base.

She fanned the first three batters she faced before Brusly senior shortstop Emma Loupe could draw a leadoff walk to open the second inning.

Cameron retired the next three batters, though, including a threat-ending fly out to left field to strand the potential tying run 60 feet from home.

The Panthers would never get as close again.

Curtis finished 2-for-3 with a double, and Cameron and freshman first baseman Leighton Ross each went 1-for-3 with a double.
