Northside Christian’s big sixth holds off Claiborne Christian for Class C title

Northside Christian started fast and, when Claiborne Christian began tightening the gap, put together an emphatic sixth inning to seal its first championship since 2021.

The No. 1 Warriors, protecting a two-run lead, loaded the bases with three walks, and junior third baseman Khyra Abshire brought all three runners home with a clutch, two-out double to blow the Class C title game back open en route to the 10-4 win.

Patient at-bats by a trio of eighth-graders in pitcher Brooklyn Hebert, catcher Isabella Bertrand and right fielder Miley Ashby set the table as Northside Christian continued to take advantage of free passes that helped it separate.

Each team racked up nine hits, but Hebert struck out eight batters and didn’t walk or hit any.

The Warriors meanwhile drew six walks and three hit-by-pitches and managed to eventually push five of those free passes around for runs.

Abshire finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, a single, the three sixth-inning RBIs and runs in the third and sixth inning.

Hebert walked twice and was hit by two pitches, and senior second baseman Jade Guidry went 2-for-4 with RBI doubles in the third and sixth innings and a third-inning.

The championship is the program’s third all-time, all in the past nine years (2018, 2021, 2026).
