One of LSU’s longest-standing 2026 commitments took a step back from that pledge and reopened his recruitment Tuesday on the eve of the early signing period.
Warren Easton offensive lineman Jalan Chapman announced his decision to decommit from the home-state Tigers, whose coaching staff — particularly on offense — has been in notable flux since this week’s hiring of now-former Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin.
“After prayer and careful consideration with my family, I have decided to fully reopen my recruitment and continue this process with clarity and purpose,” Chapman posted to social media.
The 6-foot-4, 285-pound offensive lineman, a versatile blocker at multiple positions throughout his prep career with the Eagles, has projected to play on the interior at the next level.
Chapman entered his senior season as the No. 23 overall prospect and No. 6 offensive lineman in Louisiana vs. All Y’all’s 2026 class rankings, which were most recently updated in September.
His long offer list throughout his recruitment included early offers from LSU, Oregon, Georgia, Alabama, USC, Houston, Tulane, Tennessee, Texas Tech, UCF, Troy, UTSA, Marshall, Grambling State and Alabama State with Purdue joining earlier this year.
Chapman is the first departure from the Tigers’ class since the introduction of Kiffin, as the coach and key members of his in-progress staff construction hit the ground running entering the signing period.
LSU had previously lost Acadiana defensive lineman Darryus McKinley and Lake Nona (Orlando, Fla.) edge rusher DeAnthony Lafayette to Ohio State and Miami, respectively, during the five weeks between Brian Kelly’s dismissal and Kiffin’s introduction.
