Coach Lane Kiffin’s first LSU team will feature two Tigers wearing the traditional No. 7 jersey donned for nearly two decades by many of the program’s top playmakers.
The program announced Wednesday the selection of tight end Trey’Dez Green (East Feliciana, Zachary) and linebacker Whit Weeks at the latest players in the lineage.
Both are among the key returning leaders and standouts from last year’s roster that have garnered consistent praise from Kiffin, the staff and their teammates throughout the offseason.

Green has played in 24 games, including eight starts, in his two seasons for the hometown program and caught 46 passes for 534 yards and 11 touchdowns.
The 6-foot-7, 242-pound Jackson native earned All-SEC Second-Team recognition as a sophomore with 33 receptions, 433 yards and a team-high seven scores and a 13.1 yard-per catch average that was best among Tigers with more than two touches.
Green signed with LSU in 2024 as a coveted football and basketball prospect with his elite, rare athleticism and overall talent and frame and has been consistently praised for his work ethic during his college career.
Weeks has played 32 games in three seasons in purple and gold, including 22 starts, despite battling a couple of injuries since the 2024 Texas Bowl following his sophomore campaign.
The 6-foot-3, 226-pound Watkinsville, Ga., native has racked up 205 tackles, including 16.5 for loss and five sacks, as a passionate and high-energy leader for the defense since beginning to crack into the lineup as a true freshman.
He has also tallied two forced fumbles, one recovery, three pass breakups and an interception.
Weeks was an All-SEC First-Team selection in 2024 with sophomore season of 125 tackles, including 10 for loss and 3.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles, three breakups and an interception.
He returned for a productive junior campaign despite being hampered again by injury and has been praised as a standout throughout fall camp since returning again to health.
Weeks becomes the first player in LSU’s typically recognized No. 7 jersey lineage since star cornerback Patrick Peterson to have been born outside of Louisiana.
Safety Grant Delpit Jr. and linebacker Harold Perkins Jr., the most recent No. 7, were both born in New Orleans before moving to Texas as children.
Some credit linebacker Ali Highsmith, a Miami native, as helping establish the No. 7 jersey during his decorated career from 2004 to 2007 before Peterson, a fellow south Florida product, took over and expanded its notoriety the following three seasons.
Wide receiver Jonathan Giles, a Texas Tech transfer and Missouri City, Texas, native, initially wore the No. 7 early in the 2018 season before struggling and eventually changing to the No. 12.
