Lutcher carried its momentum from late comeback and extra-innings win Thursday right into a fast start Friday to complete a Division-II Non-Select championship sweep of Brusly.
The No. 3 Bulldogs hung five runs on the scoreboard in the second inning to support a complete game by senior righty Dane Bodin in the 8-3 victory.
Bodin struck out two batters and allowed three runs on five hits and three walks.
He and his teammates pounced on a string of walks and an error for five second-inning runs that would provide more than enough support.
The Panthers responded with three runs, including a third-inning homer by senior third baseman Aubrey St. Angelo.
But Lutcher struck right back with a two-run homer by senior left fielder Eric St. Pierre in the fourth and then a sixth-inning run capitalizing on a Brusly error to push across another insurance run.
Pierre finished 1-for-2 with the home run, two RBIs, a walk and a hit-by-pitch.
A double by senior catcher Bryson Keller and singles by junior third baseman Davis St. Pierre and junior shortstop Jayce Ferrygood added further highlights to an opportunistic offensive performance in which the Bulldogs took advantage of six walks and two errors.
St. Angelo’s home run and two walks led the Panthers, who also received singles from sophomore shortstop Isaiah Daley, senior third baseman Coy Purpera, junior left fielder Brandon Blanchard and junior second baseman Cade Rills.
Lutcher’s championship is its seventh all-time and third in the past five years.
The Bulldogs trailed Brusly much of Thursday in a tight battle in the series opener before scratching a tying run across in the sixth inning with a leadoff double by senior right fielder Cameron Deroche and eventual sacrifice fly by junior center fielder Dylan Delaneuville.
Keller led off the eighth inning with a double and scored a go-ahead run as Lutcher strung together a walk for Eric St. Pierre, an error and singles by Deroche and Deleaneuville.
Delaneuville struck out six batters in four scoreless innings of relief to earn the pitching win.
