The initial injury report for LSU’s conference opener Saturday at Ole Miss featured some notable — and even surprising — names to monitor in the days ahead.
Starting quarterback Sam Leavitt drew a “doubtful” distinction less than 72 hours until the Tigers’ kickoff against the Rebels in the top-10 matchup.
The transfer from Arizona State has led an offense that has shown explosive flashes due in no small part to abilities to extend or make plays with his legs and to drive the ball downfield to his speedy weapons, including a career-high 344 yards Saturday against Louisiana Tech.
His four interceptions through two contests, including three against the Bulldogs, have also been a major discussion point this week ahead of his and the team’s first road trip and SEC game, a highly anticipated showdown with coach Lane Kiffin’s previous program.
Leavitt has completed 41 of his 66 passes thus far (62.1%) for 574 yards, two touchdowns and the four picks and has rushed 23 times for 135 yards and five more scores.
One of those aforementioned speedy weapons, second-year wide receiver Phillip Wright III (Destrehan), was among three Tigers already listed as out for Saturday, along with linebacker/edge rusher Jaiden Braker and running back Raycine Guillory Jr.
Linebacker T.J. Dottery, a transfer from Ole Miss and early star on LSU’s “lights-out” defense thus far, and reserve linebacker Tylen Singleton (Many) were both listed as questionable, and tight end Trey’Dez Green (East Feliciana, Zachary), linebackers Whit Weeks and Davhon Keys and starting right guard Aliou Bah.
