Spencer Verret has spent a lifetime not understanding an endless barrage of movie references quoted at or around him — perhaps have frequently as ever during past two years.
After a couple years bombarding the LHSAA Network reporter with those references, Jerit Roser has finally committed to trying to help him catch up on some of those cultural touch points.
At least a few. Whatever the guys can fit into a summer. And they’ll play it by ear from there.
Introducing “Stale Popcorn,” a podcast project through which Jerit will introduce Spencer to a series of significant, classic, popular and otherwise well-known films he’s never seen or in some cases somehow never even heard of.
The series will help educate Spencer to be able to better understand — and, God willing, one day even be able to participate in — cultural references that consistently find their way into conversation and other media.
Additionally, it will provide an interesting perspective of a 24-year-old seeing these movies in 2026 for the first time with fresh eyes and a Gen-Z attention span.
The juxtaposition should be fun (or painful? we haven’t decided yet) as Jerit grew up heavily steeped in movie-watching and movie-going from a young age.
Many years before founding Louisiana vs. All Y’all, he had a job as a teenager at Blockbuster Video, an establishment he genuinely asked Spencer whether he was even aware the existence of.
Jerit continues to watch more movies in a slow month than Spencer has watched his entire life, as this introduction episode should provide some glimpse of context.
