One of Louisiana’s top wide receivers prospects in a strong senior class at the position is back on the market less than 10 days before the early signing period.
West Monroe star Trez Davis announced Monday his decommitment from Tulane amid a heavy late push from a long list of Power Four programs.
“First, I want to thank Tulane University — the coaches, staff and everyone who invested in me,” Davis shared via social media. “Yu didn’t just recruit me; you believed in me. You saw my potential, and that will always mean something to me and my family. The love, support and genuine relationship I experienced never went unnoticed.
“After praying, talking with my family and really considering my next steps, I’ve made the difficult decision to decommit from Tulane and reopen my recruitment. This was not an easy choice. Tulane offered me a great opportunity, and I’m truly grateful for the respect, the connection and the belief you had in me. This is simple the next step in my journey, and I’m trusting God with every move.”
The 6-foot, 185-pound athlete entered the season as the No. 21 prospect overall and No. 5 wide receiver in Louisiana vs. All Y’all’s class rankings and had been tabbed as an expected rankings riser following his return from a wrist injury and impressive senior campaign.
Davis committed to the Green Wave in June, but became one of the state’s most sought-after flip targets for a long list of Power-Four programs during the past month and a half.
Houston, Baylor, Arkansas, Kentucky, Washington and Minnesota all extended offers, and Davis and his family made subsequent visits to Houston, Mississippi State and most recently Washington.
The Rebels’ star becomes the second in-state wide receiver to back off a pledge to Tulane during the past two months as bigger-conference programs have entered the fold.
Lafayette Christian’s Brayden Allen reopened his recruitment in late September and committed to Oklahoma a few days later.
