From Cecilia High’s green and gold of Cecilia High to LSU’s purple and gold, Braylon Calais is poised to cover the Mardi Gras color spectrum.
The Bulldogs’ versatile star and highly ranked prospect announced his commitment Monday evening to the hometown Tigers over a long list of other options that most notably also included Ohio State, Texas A&M, Miami, Houston and Ole Miss.
“Just putting the pieces together, Lane Kiffin and his offense, you know what they’re building,” Calais told Rivals after cycling through a series of different hats and even a question-mark T-shirt before finally showing off his LSU gloves. “I just wanna be a part of LSU getting back to where everyone was scared to play ’em. So just seeing me line up along with all the other players that’s going there to help ’em, I just feel like it was the best bet, the best fit.”
Calais is the No. 6 overall prospect in Louisiana vs. All Y’all’s rankings for the state’s 2027 class and among the elite projected pass-catchers at the next level among the group.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound all-around weapon has been a three-phase playmaker for the Bulldogs throughout his career, including LSWA Class 4A all-state recognitions in a 2024 honorable mention and 2025 first-team return specialist selection.
This fall, he rushed for 1,108 yards and 20 touchdowns, caught 32 passes for 566 yards and another four scores, passed for 498 yards and six touchdowns and returned eight kickoffs for an average of 50 yards and another pair of end-zone trips.
His anticipated signing in December would make him the Cecilia program’s first to do so with LSU since offensive lineman Jonathan Autrey in 1999 with then-coach Gerry DiNardo.
The distinction makes Monday a particularly significant cause for celebration for the school, located just 45 miles from Tiger Stadium, and its passionate community.
And the big-play ability that Calais brings to the class also marks an exciting addition to the LSU class led by Evangel Christian quarterback Peyton “Pop” Houston along with a pair of highly touted out-of-state commitments in Irmo, S.C., edge rusher Jaiden “Boog” Bryant and Chaminade-Madonna Prep (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) wide receiver Ah’Mari Stevens.
“Oh man, (Kiffin) was through the roof when I told him,” Calais smiled again, adding, “When Braylon Calais arrives in Baton Rouge, y’all can expect another elite wide receiver.”
