LSU’s final annual showdown with Alabama at 2:30 p.m. Saturday will be a top-15 matchup, despite a slight slip for the Tigers in one major national polls during their bye week.
Coach Lane Kiffin’s squad (6-2, 3-2) dropped a couple spots to No. 15 in the latest Coaches Poll released Sunday morning, now matching the same position in the AP poll where it remained steady during its idle Halloween weekend.
Alabama (6-2, 4-2) moved up a spot in each rankings set to No. 9 on a weekend that proved far less chaotic than most of October.
Miami (8-0) remained steady atop each list with No. 2/2 Georgia (7-1, 5-1), No. 3/4 Utah (8-0), No. 4/6 Notre Dame (7-1), No. 5/5 UCLA (8-0) and No. 6/3 Indiana all moving into top-five spots on a week in which the most notable shakeup was then-No. 2 Ohio State (6-2) losing to USC (7-2) and sliding to No. 10 in the AP and No. 11 in the Coaches.
Georgia and No. 8/7 Kentucky (7-1, 5-1) lead an eight-team contingent from the SEC in the AP poll with the Bulldogs’ 27-8 defeat of Florida (5-3, 3-3) knocking the Gators and former Tulane coach Jon Sumrall from the top 25.
Florida clung to No. 25 in the Coaches, where South Carolina (5-3, 3-3) also entered the mix at No. 23 to give the league 10 members.
LSU’s two opponents after Alabama, No. 10/11 Texas (6-2, 3-2) and No. 16/16 Tennessee (6-2, 3-2) each saw slight positive momentum in this week’s rankings.
