LSWA Statewide Football Polls | Week 4

The early-season shakeups in the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s statewide football polls continued with Monday mornings latest votes following an eye-catching Week 3 slate.

New teams earned the No. 1 spots in the Class 5A and 3A lists — at least new for this season. Both are traditionally familiar faces near the top of the rankings and in annual title-contentions.

Edna Karr overtook Ruston in Class 5A after winning a head-to-head battle, 21-14, at Caesars Superdome where both programs hope to be again in December.

Also notably in Class 5A, a four-spot slip for Catholic-Baton Rouge outside of the top five to No. 9 and Jesuit cracking the top 10.

St. James is the new No. 1 in Class 3A after a third straight overtime game to open the season got the best of River Parishes rival St. Charles Catholic, which suffered its first loss, 10-7, to Holy Cross.

Eunice,  Isidore Newman and Cedar Creek cracked the top 10 in Class 3A, Class 2A and Class 1A, respectively, all at No. 10 in their respective groups, as did No. 8 John F. Kennedy and No. 9 Belle Chasse in Class 4A.
