LSU’s hiring of Lane Kiffin may already be making recruiting waves in Louisiana in the immediate hours upon the new coach’s arrival to Baton Rouge.
Lafayette Christian wide receiver Brayden Allen announced Sunday he would be backing off his Oklahoma commitment and reopening his recruitment just three days before the fast-approaching early signing period.
The Knights’ 6-foot-1, 175-pound star had remained locked in with the Sooners even upon receiving an offer from the home-state Tigers during a Nov. 15 visit for interim coach Frank Wilson III and company’s win against Arkansas.
But the arrival of Kiffin and other members of the Ole Miss staff may prove a late game-changer.
Allen initially committed to Tulane on July 17 over Texas Tech, Vanderbilt, Boston College and a long list of other programs.
But, just two days later, the Rebels kicked off a fresh round of Power-Four suitors entering the mix that went on to include Colorado, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State in the weeks that followed.
And Oklahoma was ultimately able to flip him Oct. 1 with the opportunity for him to play in the SEC at the next level.
Allen was back in Norman, Okla., on Saturday for the regular-season finale between the Sooners and Tigers, but then Sunday was among the first prospects back at LSU as Kiffin hit the Louisiana recruiting ground running ahead of the signing period.
The Tigers currently hold three wide receiver commitments, all from fellow in-state prospects in Kenny Darby (Airline), Jabari Mack (Destrehan) and Kervin Johnson Jr. (Tioga).
All told Louisiana vs. All Y’all earlier Sunday they remain locked in with the program.
