LSU continued reshuffling its recruiting class Tuesday as new coach Lane Kiffin and his still-forming staff hit the ground running into the earning signing period.
Tioga wide receiver Kervin Johnson Jr. announced his flip from the home-state program to neighboring Ole Miss from which Kiffin has just arrived and assistants — particularly on the offensive side of the ball — continue to follow.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound pass-catcher and multisport standout for his Indians became the third Louisiana prospect in a span of just a few hours to exit the Tigers’ class in some fashion.
Warren Easton offensive lineman Jalan Chapman announced Tuesday morning he would be reopening his recruiting process, followed by Airline wide receiver Kenny Darby sharing his decommitment early Tuesday afternoon.
Despite being a major playmaker for Tioga, Johnson had remained a largely under-the-radar prospect for much of his recruiting process even through his September commitment to Louisiana Tech.
LSU extended an offer Oct. 25 while he visited Baton Rouge for the the team’s home game against Texas A&M.
And Johnson committed that Monday morning even despite the Tigers’ disappointing performance against the Aggies and subsequent overhaul of their coaching staff with the dismissals of coach Brian Kelly and offensive coordinator Joe Sloan.
He remained locked into signing with the home-state program Wednesday throughout the five weeks that followed, but is now poised to instead sign with SEC rival Ole Miss and new coach Pete Golding — himself a Louisiana native — as both the Tigers’ and Rebels’ cohorts rapidly change along with their respective staffs.
